SN74LV163APWR is an advanced presettable synchronous UP/DOWN binary counter integrated circuit. It is continuously presettable counter offering parallel inputs for the BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) data, UP/DOWN control and asynchronous master reset with augmented features. This counter is based on the TTL technology and belongs to the family of logic ICs – counters, dividers.The SN74LV163APWR counter can provide a wide variety of UP/DOWN count operations. With the UP/DOWN select line of the counter, the application is given the freedom to select either UP or DOWN direction of the count. This counter can be preset to any desired number and can be incremented by either manual or automatic accesses, just by controlling the UP/DOWN control.The SN74LV163APWR logic IC is based on the TTL technology which provides robustness, high speed and high noise immunity on all its input pins. The output logic states effectively provide excellent capability of driving high fan-out loads and bus-oriented applications. The TTL technology also provides power to the IC during operation, which is usually provided using a standard 9V battery or similar source.The SN74LV163APWR counter has five inputs in total: BCD IN A, BCD IN B, BCD IN C and D, UP/DOWN line and the Enable line. The BCD IN lines provides the BCD data input to the counter. The UP/DOWN control line provides the application with the flexibility to select the UP or DOWN direction of the count. The enable line allows the IC to continue counting on the next cycle while the inputs remain in valid logic level states.The counter also has two output lines: the UP/DOWN count line which indicates the UP/DOWN count direction of the IC and the Q output which provides an asynchronous parallel output of the current count value. The UP/DOWN output line is an open collector output, meaning that it is not high or low but can only be high when the counter is counting in the UP direction or low when the counter is counting in the DOWN direction.The SN74LV163APWR counter has wide applications and is suitable for a variety of end systems such as counters, timers and event counters. It can also be used for count comparison and control, frequency division and multiplexing.
