The SN74LV393APWT is a dual four-bit digital counter which combines two separate four-bit synchro/ripple counter sections into a single package. It is a positive-edge triggered synchronous device with reset and individual Up/Down pins for each counter section. It is widely used in a variety of applications such as counters, dividers, display drivers, frequency dividers, etc.
This device is made with titanium-compliant schottky technology and is available in the WLCSP (Wafer-Level Chip-Scale Package) form factor. It is suitable for use in automotives, consumer electronics, medical, industrial, and other applications.
Working principle
The SN74LV393APWT is a dual 4-bit synchronous counter with synchronous clear, count direction control and index control on each of the two sections. When triggered by a positive-edge, the SN74LV393APWT will instantly clear the counter value to zero, begin counting in the direction specified, and continue counting until a terminal count of 15 (in binary, “1111”) is reached. At the terminal count, a carry-out pulse is generated along with the terminal count. The carry-out can be used to select a higher order means of counting or referencing.
The SN74LV393APWT supports individual or simultaneous control of both counters through the UP/DOWN inputs. When the device is enabled, both counters will begin counting in the direction selected by their respective UP/DOWN inputs. When the device is in the disabled state, both counters will hold their respective values.
The SN74LV393APWT has a reset input which can be used to reset all the internal flip-flops. When the reset is activated, the counters will reset to zero and the carry-out of all stages will be low. The reset can be used to synchronize multiple counters or to quickly reset and start a new counting sequence.
The SN74LV393APWT also features a clock input and clock enable input. The clock enable input can be used to disable the counter’s clock to put the device in a power-down or hold state. The clock input can be used to synchronize the SN74LV393APWT with other logic.
