The SN75146D is an octal bidirectional differential line driver and receiver, designed for applications in digital systems where multiple-point data transmission is required over long lines. The SN75146D contains eight gate-drive output source type transistors and eight complementary-symmetry input buffer field-effect transistors.In addition to electrical characteristics such as low distortion, low power consumption, and high data rate, the SN75146D features low-temperature drift, which makes it particularly useful in automotive communications systems.
Working Principle
The SN75146D is a fully differential, low-voltage quad output, line driver and receiver chip. The output of this chip is composed of two driving circuits: one is a differential gate-drive circuit and the other is a complementary-symmetry input buffer circuit.The gate-drive circuit includes 8 output source type transistors and 8 output sink type transistors. Each transistor has a threshold voltage of 0.4V and a maximum output current of 2mA. Output voltage range for the gates is fixed at 7V to 13V.
The complementary-symmetry input buffer circuit consists of 8 P-channel and 8 N-channel FETs with a maximum source-drain resistance of 1.2 ohms. It accepts inputs ranging from 0V to +5V and can drive up to 10mA sinking current. The input impedance of the buffer is around 20K ohms and the maximum frequency is 1MHz.
The SN75146D features low-frequency distortion, low-power consumption and high-data transfer rate. It also has a high input impedance to minimize interference with high-frequency signals and has excellent temperature-drift performance. This makes it suitable for use in automotive communication systems.
