Working principles of SN75472D

The SN75472D circuit is designed as a complementary ISD driver, which combines current-to-voltage signal conversion, signal conditioning, and standard digital logic functions. It consists of two N-channel enhancement mode MOS transistors, one p-channel enhancement mode MOS transistor, one current limiting resistor and two capacitors. The circuit is designed to drive digital signals from the input side to the output side with very low current consumption.

The device operates at a maximum supply voltage of 5V and a supply current of around 5 mA, consuming very less power when compared to other drivers. At the input side, the SN75472D input current limiting resistor (also called the Input Limiting Resistor) is used to reduce the input current when the input voltage exceeds the device\'s supply voltage. The Input Limiting Resistor also serves to protect the device against input signals which contain high currents.

The SN75472D incorporates current-to-voltage signal conversion in order to drive the output signal from the input side to the output side. This signal is then conditioned by the two capacitor banks and the output side is then driven out from the output side of the device. The two capacitor banks provide EMI protection and also reduce high frequency noise from the device. Furthermore, the device has power supply voltage regulation, reverse voltage protection and fail-safe outputs.

In addition, the SN75472D also features a voltage shifting capability which enables the device to operate safely in the presence of a high resistance, thereby making it suitable for use in pilot and signal control applications. The voltage shifting capability also ensures that the device operates safely even when reverse batteries are connected.
