Application Field of the SP4021-01FTG

The SP4021-01FTG TVS diode is a miniaturized form of a Rapidly Acting TVS Diode designed for use in applications where a higher level of protection is required against ESD, burst, surge and transients. It is popular for its small size and fast response time. This diode can be used for protecting telecommunication equipment, computers, consumer electronics, automotive systems, white goods, military and aerospace systems.

The low capacitance turn-on, minimal clamping voltage, fast response time and integrated current limiting make the SP4021-01FTG extremely versatile and ideal for data-line protection. This device is rated for an operating voltage of 5.0 V, with a maximum peak pulse power of 600 Watts. The peak pulse current is rated at 8.0 Amps, and the diode’s operating temperature range is from -65°C to +150°C.

Working Principle of the SP4021-01FTG

TVS Diodes are semiconductor devices that suppress transient voltages by diverting them to ground. As a miniature device, the SP4021-01FTG will rapidly absorb, disperse or clamp transient voltages to prevent damage to sensitive electronic circuits.

The working principle of the diode is based on its PN junction which provides protection from Electro-static Discharge by reducing the voltage when subjected to a voltage surge. This occurs when the PN junction reaches the Peak Pulse Voltage (PPV) rating. Once the PPV is reached, the diode acts as a low resistance to divert the surge current to the ground and thus protects the device connected to it. Moreover, the low capacitance of the diode ensures fast turn-on time, minimal clamping voltage, and integrated current limiting as features crucial to protecting data-line type circuits.
