The SP487CT-L is part of the family of low-power integrated circuit transceivers from Exar Corporation. The device integrates a differential line driver and an enhanced receiver in one package. The SP487CT-L is produced in a 3mm2 8-pin plastic leaded chip carrier (PLCC) package and is available in the -45°C to +85°C temperature range. The SP487CT-L is rated for an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.
The SP487CT-L is a two-channel half-duplex differential line driver and receiver. It is designed to operate in physical-layer applications with data rates of up to 128 kbps. The SP487CT-L is suitable for operating with a variety of signalling formats such as: Bi-Phase Mark; Non Return To Zero (NRZ); Return To Zero (RZ); Manchester Code. It also supports differential signalling, where the mean of the two signals (A - B) is used for transmission.
The SP487CT-L is a full bus interface consisting of two lines, A and B. The two lines are independent and symmetrical. The line A is driven by the transmitter and the line B is driven by the receiver. The SP487CT-L receives the differential signal (A - B = 0 ) and drives the differential signal (A - B = VOH to VOL). The line A is driven by the transmitter and the line B is driven by the receiver by using open-drain outputs.
In order to enable its operation, two external resistors (R1 and R2) and one external capacitor (C1) are needed. The value of the resistors should be chosen in order to determine the gains for the transmitter and receiver. The capacitor is used for impedance matching with the line.
The SP487CT-L is an ideal choice for applications requiring low power consumption, low noise and high data rates such as: Automotive; Industrial; Computer and Consumer Electronics; Communication Systems; and medical applications.
The SP487CT-L works by means of a differential line driver and receiver. The differential line driver can take input from two sources: a single-ended (A) and a differential (A - B) signal. The differential signal is converted to a single-ended signal and then amplified by the differential line driver. The single-ended signal is then transmitted over the two lines, A and B. The receiver processes the signal and extracts the differential signal (A - B). The differential signal is then fed to the device output, which is used to control the state of the output.
