Transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) diodes are used to protect components against sudden voltage spikes due to electrical transients. The SP6002-06UTG-1 is a Uni-Directional TVS diode, and is ideal for applications where small size, low capacitance and high surge capability are required. The SP6002-06UTG-1 is designed for circuit protection in electronic equipment and can be used in a variety of applications such as Ethernet, USB, HDMI, and other consumer electronics.

The SP6002-06UTG-1 utilizes a reverse-biased silicon diode, also referred to as a zener diode which is used to dissipate large spikes of electricity while providing a low resistance current path when the voltage spike is present. This low resistance path limits the current that is allowed to reach other components on the circuit, preventing them from damage caused by high voltage transients. The diode functions by providing a low resistance path for the current during the transient voltage spike. This allows the current to bypass other components along the circuit, thus preventing them from receiving an overload.

The SP6002-06UTG-1 has a low capacitance of 4 pF and is capable of handling surges up to 600W peak power and 5A peak current. It is designed to work in a wide range of operating temperatures from -55°C to +125°C and is suitable for applications operating at 8 volts to 22 volts. It is also RoHS compliant.

The SP6002-06UTG-1 uses an avalanche breakdown voltage of 12V that is triggered whenever a voltage spike is present. When triggered, a large current is allowed to flow through the diode, which is then dissipated as heat. This current bypasses the other components, protecting them from possible damage.
