PMIC - SupervisorsThe SP706TCU-L supervisor is a microcontroller-generated reset circuit that offers several unique features and benefits. Its block diagram includes a Power Supply Detector (PSD) and voltage supervisor (VS) to monitor the supply voltage, an input/output port, and an optional temperature detector (TD).
The Power Supply Detector (PSD) monitors the power supply voltage. It alerts the system if the voltage falls below a predetermined level. This prevents the system from experiencing random enounters and glitch events. The PSD can detect a wide range of voltage levels, offering improved precision and reliability.The VS is designed to monitor and detect abnormally low voltage levels within the system. This feature helps to prevent system-level catastrophic failures such as random resets or lockups. The VS can detect all power supply levels, from as high as VDD to as low as 3.2 V.The I/O port is used to interface with a SPI- or I2C-enabled device, such as a thermistor, EEPROM, or LCD. This port allows communication with these external devices, enabling real-time handling of data and control operations.The optional Temperature Detector (TD) allows the detection of the system’s ambient temperature. This helps to ensure that the system is operating within normal temperature ranges. By periodically monitoring the temperature of the system, TD helps prevent the system from being subject to sudden temperature shifts that could result in component failure and data loss.
The SP706TCU-L features a number of additional features, such as built-in watchdog timers, programmable reset delays, and adjustable reset output levels. The watchdog timers are designed to monitor the activity of active applications and reset the system if they become inactive.
