Working Principle

The SS15LHRHG is essentially a nonlinear element that allows current to flow in one direction only when the anode is at a higher potential than the cathode. When alternating current is applied to the diode, the rectified voltage appears across the terminals, with the current flow in one direction only.

When forward biased, the diode allows current flow in one direction, switching off the current as it passes a certain threshold voltage, known as the Forward Break Over Voltage (FBOV). Varying the FBOV can change the switching speed and current limiting capabilities of the diode.

In reverse bias, the current is blocked and when the voltage exceeding a certain value known as the peak reverse voltage (PRV), the diode conducts, allowing a very small current to pass in the reverse direction.
