Working principle

The working principle behind a rectifier diode is based on the principle of PN junction. This junction works by allowing current to flow in one direction only. When the PN junction of the diode is connected in series with an AC source, the alternating current is converted into DC where positive cycle passes the diode and current flow in one direction while the negative cycle is blocked by the diode.

When the diode is forward biased, the voltage drop across the diode is low, as it has a low on-state voltage drop of 1.1 V when conducting 50 A. This allows the current to flow through the diode and the output is clamped to the forward biased level. When reverse biased, the voltage drop across the diode is high, hence no current can flow.

SS19LHR3G rectifier diode has a low reverse leakage current of 25 nA at a reverse voltage of 1000 V and high current capability. This makes it ideal for high-voltage rectifier applications, where high surge current and low leakage currents are required.
