The SS3P3HM3J/84A is a single-phase bridge rectifier, also known as a full wave rectifier, which is a type of diode widely used in power supply applications. It incorporates four diodes arranged in a bridge configuration and is rated for DC working voltages up to 800V with a current capacity of 3 amperes. The SS3P3HM3J/84A bridge rectifier is mostly used to convert AC voltage to DC voltage, such as in DC power supplies, motor speed controllers, and home appliances such as stoves, blenders and washing machines.
The operation of the SS3P3HM3J/84A bridge rectifier involves four consecutively connected diodes with alternating negatives and positives in the bridge configuration, resulting in a traditional half-wave rectifier with double the output voltage. When the input polarity is positive (anode) at the top of the bridge, the current flows from +ve to -ve through the diodes marked D2 and D1 respectively. When the input polarity is reversed (cathode), the current flows through the D2 and D3 diodes respectively. This way, the SS3P3HM3J/84A is able to provide an alternating output frequency which is proportional to the input voltage.
The SS3P3HM3J/84A bridge rectifier also features an internal temperature protection to prevent overloads. This feature is effective over a temperature range of 85°C to 150°C. The maximum reverse leakage current is 300µA, the maximum forward surge current is 7 amperes and the forward voltage drop is 0.8V. Operating this bridge rectifier at high temperatures of 85°C to 150°C should occur only under normal environmental conditions. Furthermore, this bridge rectifier should also be used with a filter capacitor and/or resistor to reduce AC ripple voltage.
