LED Drivers broadly fit in the domain of power management ICs (PMICs). Additionally, the converter has a programmable Power ON enable time up to 20ms and a oscillator frequency of 1Mhz.

The SSL5301T/1J LED driver also provides an integrated current limit mechanism that protects both the converter and the LED in case of a fault. To aid higher payload capacitance, the LED driver includes an embedded circuit protection before the LED driver. This embedded feedback circuit limits the current in case of a fault in the LEDs due to an open or short circuit.

The SSL5301T/1J converter is based on a dual channel converter architecture which results in higher efficiency compared to its single channel equivalent. When configured in 2-phase interleaved operation, the two independent channels generate two separate 180° out of phase PWM outputs which operate at half of the switching frequency. This technique allows for a higher average output voltage and also reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The converter also has an integrated protection from overvoltage conditions. If the output voltage exceeds the set threshold, usually due to external fault, an overvoltage protection circuit disconnects the load from the output. Additionally, the converter can be protected from reverse polarity input voltages and short circuit conditions.
