STEVAL-ILL038V2 is an evaluation board or platform dedicated to driving up to five outputs of high current LEDs. It is a cost-effective solution with features that enable the evaluation and characterization of the characteristics of AC/DC LED drivers. The board is an ideal platform for the development, testing, and validation of high-power LED applications with the maximum adjustable output power up to 25 W.

Working principle

STEVAL-ILL038V2 supports two operating modes when driving LED systems. In the phase-cut dimming mode (or phase-cut LED driver), the phase of the AC power line is controlled, which is ideal for dimmable LED applications. In the PWM dimming mode (or Pulse Width Modulation LED driver), the duty cycle of the PWM signal controls the LED power level.

The user can program the parameters of the board for the ideal performance for any application. The board allows the user to select the operating voltage and current ranges as well as the switching frequency and duty cycle as per their preferred selection power. The board can be programmed in either dimmable or non-dimmable applications, depending on the needs of the application.

The STEVAL-ILL038V2 platform enables a safe and robust operation of the LED system while providing precise control and flexibility. It incorporates all the necessary safety feature such as the over temperature protection, input voltage protection, over voltage and reverse polarity protection, and short circuit protection.

The platform is equipped with an over-temperature-sensing device and a variable consumer sense circuit. The consumer sense circuit can be adjusted according to the total power/intensity of the LED subsystems and helps in current-sensing and temperature protection.

Monitoring and programming of the STEVAL-ILL038V2 evaluation board is possible through a PC with an interfacing application and configured in the appropriate communication protocol using a special USB connection. With the provided PC application, the user can access all features of the board, including monitoring and programming of the board. In addition, the board can be put in safe shutdown mode for power saving.
