The STEVAL-ILL003V2 application field is mainly suitable for professional lighting applications with dimming or lighting effect functions. It can be used in wall washers, spot lights, RGB and RGBA string lights. It also has applications in commercial and residential lighting, signboard and architectural lighting, auto lighting and special effects lighting.

The working principle of STEVAL-ILL003V2 consists of several components. The main controller, STM32F101C8, receives signals from an internal PWM to select LEDs, control the dimming mode, adjust the power output, and generate PWM signals for fade levels. It also combines the three channel RGB and the single channel RGBA for better programmable effect control.

In addition, STEVAL-ILL003V2 integrates a constant current LED driver topology, which takes advantage of the programmable LED current with a resolution of 256 steps. Furthermore, the LED current setting is done using an internal 10bit DAC. The LED current can be adjusted through I2C communication, monitored with a differential amplifier, and output as a voltage signal via an internal voltage regulator.

STEVAL-ILL003V2 includes three channel MOSFETs for the PWM dimming, which ensures fast dimming with high efficiency. It also combines over temperature protection and open LED protection for improved safety. Moreover, STEVAL-ILL003V2 has two DACs for two channels adjustable output, which makes it control single-string LEDs or multiple RGB/RGBA strings easily. It supports up to 6 strings of LEDs and each can be further divided into up to 6 segments for lots of applications.
