Introduction

STEVAL-ISA005V1 is a smart power supply evaluation board for off-line DC/DC and AC/DC switching power supply applications. Working Principle

STEVAL-ISA005V1 working principle is based on the use of an integrated voltage regulator at the input voltage end and switched-mode power supply at the output voltage end.At the input voltage end, the voltage regulator is used to control the input voltage and maintain the working voltage range under normal conditions. This voltage regulator works by comparing the output voltage to an internal reference voltage and adjusting the output current accordingly.At the output voltage end, the switched mode power supply uses PWM (Pulse-width modulation) and resonant DC/DC converters to control the voltage drop at the output. PWM is used to reduce the power consumption while the resonant converters improve the output voltage accuracy and power efficiency. The output voltage is then controlled by two temperature sensors and three isothermal protection circuits. The two temperature sensors measure the temperature at the hot-spot and adjust the output voltage according to the temperature limits. If the temperature reaches a critical level, the three isothermal protection circuits will shut down the output voltage and the device will automatically enter a safe mode until the temperature decreases. Additionally, STEVAL-ISA005V1 evaluation board also includes five 2-way switches. These switches are used to adjust the output voltage and select different voltage levels.
