Evaluation boards are among the most powerful tools available to measure a wide range of parameters, from basic measurements to complex theoretical models. The STEVAL-ISA009V1 is an evaluation board used in DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line)SMPS applications.
The STEVAL-ISA009V1 evaluation board consists of a 750W buck converter power stage evaluation kit with active transient response. The STEVAL-ISA009V1 evaluation board works on the basis of pulse width modulation (PWM). The PWM input is fed directly to the device, typically to a wafer switch. This wafer switch acts like a single switch, which, depending on the voltage level received, produces semiconductor pulses that are then connected and disconnected to the primary side of the buck converter.
When these pulses reach the primary side of the converter, they reach the transformer which produces the voltage on the secondary side needed to control the device. Consequently, by controlling the width of the pulses that reach the primary converter, the voltage on the secondary side is controlled. The current flowing from the device is then regulated and determined by the output voltage and the number of turns in the transformer.
The STEVAL-ISA009V1 evaluation board also contains a temperature protection sub-system, which ensures that the device does not overheat and damage itself. It provides various protection features to avoid damage from overloading or shorting the device. This sub-system uses an integrated temperature probe to monitor the temperature and take action as required.
The STEVAL-ISA009V1 evaluation board is also capable of providing fault diagnosis.
