STEVAL-ISA012V1 is a flexible off-line AC/DC power supply evaluation board operating from wide range mains input voltage. It provides a total output power that can reach up to 60 Watts, thanks to a 12V/4A output combined with three adjustable outputs: 5V/3A, 12V/1A and 15V/1A. This evaluation board also features a wide range of protections, such as short-circuit, over-voltage and over-temperature protections.

The power supply stages have been designed to use proven, commercially available components and are composed of both single as well as multi-channel power devices. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of application fields such as industrial, medical, home and office appliances, telecom, lighting and white goods.

Using these types of evaluation boards, designers can develop and test their AC/DC power supplies while having the flexibility to operate over a wide range of input voltage, output voltages and output currents. STEVAL-ISA012V1 evaluation board does not require a heatsink, thus allowing for a reduced footprint with high power density related to the input and output characteristics.

The evaluation board is built around a single-stage power-supply topology which includes a power input stage, integrated with an over-voltage protection (OVP) circuit. Power is supplied via the primary circuit to a full-bridge rectifier that converts line voltage to a DC voltage. This DC voltage is then fed to an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) PFC stage. The PFC boosts the DC voltage to the nominal 400V DC rail. This rail is then used as a rectified AC source for the secondary stage. This stage is composed of an LLC half-bridge, transforming the 400V DC rail to the required output voltages. The output rail is further regulated and protected via the secondary stage’s integrated OVP and short-circuit protection (SCP) circuits.

The evaluation board offers very low standby power and high efficiency across the entire load range. The standby mode is a Green-Mode to comply with EuP/ErP energy legislation.The board offers several protections such as OVP, SCP and over-temperature protections (OTP). Output voltage is easily adjustable via on-board potentiometers, allowing precise settings for the different output rails. All components on the board can be monitored via an open thermistor structure. The evaluation board can be remotely enabled/disabled thanks to a dedicated pin.

This evaluation board has been designed in such a way to allow the designers to shorten their design cycles and reduce the cost of development. All components used in the application are cost-effective and suitable for mass production. This evaluation board is a perfect solution for development of AC/DC power supplies for a wide variety of products, for applications which require high precision and reliability.
