The STEVAL-ISA057V1 is one of the off-line switching power supplies evaluation boards that are designed from STMicroelectronics. The board has been developed to provide a platform for comprehensive evaluation and testing of off-line converters. The STEVAL-ISA057V1 board is ideal for evaluating applications such as battery-operated equipment, working in harsh environment, medical applications, etc.Using the high-performance STI660200C (Integrated dual valley switching and linear controllers) this evaluation board provides accurate and fast off-line switching. It has a wide operating range of between 85 to 265Vrms with efficiency up to 90%. The board also supports low standby power consumption of 130mW (at 230 Vac). Furthermore, it provides adjustable output voltage and is hot plug capable.The STEVAL-ISA057V1 is an AC/DC middle power evaluation board with an output current rating of 0.5A (520mA). The board is available in two different rated output power levels, namely 8W and 15W, and according to the required application, suitable components can be selected. The board also features overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuit protection, with an accurate regulation loop allowing a very tight load and line regulation.In terms of its working principle, the STEVAL-ISA057V1 off-line application features several different components. It includes the power switch in the primary branch of the design and other components in the secondary branch. The STI660200C device works with a frequency of up to 100kHz with a constant frequency current mode. The power switch and control circuitry works together to produce an output voltage utilizing a peak current mode control with an inductive output filter.When the AC main is connected, the power switch turns on and the input current is sampled by an internal current feedback. The feedback signals is then compared to a reference set point which can be adjusted according to the needs. When the switch is activated, the voltage and inductor current ramp up and the current waveform is monitored by the cycle-by-cycle peak current limit circuit.When the peak current reaches its limit, the power switch is then gated off. This process then causes the inductor current to decay and the output voltage to start regulating. This process is then repeated until the output voltage reaches its desired value.
