The STEVAL-ISA090V1 is an evaluation board manufactured which is designed for evaluating STmicroelectronics’ high performance off-line (DC/DC & AC/DC) SMPS ICs. STEVAL-ISA090V1 offers a combination of high efficiency, high output voltage accuracy and low standby power, making it a well suited board for consumer applications such as monitor or flat panel TVs, printer, modem, and set-top boxes or other applications that incorporate high-quality and reliable switching power supplies and need to keep low standby power consumption.
The STEVAL-ISA090V1 evaluation board supports a wide range of AC input voltage options, from 100 VAC single-phase to 347 VAC three-phase. It also features an adjustable SMPS output voltage range of 14 VDC to 600 VDC, and 3 SMPS output current levels of 4 A, 6 A and 8 A. Additionally, the board utilizes 0.93” x Ac Output Line Low Voltage (LLV) technology, which provides for additional cost savings and product differentiation features. Moreover, the 1 MHz quasi-resonate switching frequency used allows the board to be both space-efficient and used in lower cost applications.
The working principle of the STEVAL-ISA090V1 board lies in its support for offline AC to DC conversion and single and multiple output operation for different voltage domains. The on-board primary side ICs perform an AC rectification, filtering and PFC functionality, followed by an LLC circuit for DC to DC conversion from the input voltage range to the SMPS output voltage level. Sensing of output load current can also be performed by an optional secondary-side IC.
In addition, the STEVAL-ISA090V1 also features an integrated digital core IC that enables the user to adjust and monitor the voltage and current levels of the board from a PC. The embedded software running on this IC allows the user to perform a variety of parameter setting, reading, and monitoring tasks.
All in all, the STEVAL-ISA090V1 provides a cost-effective solution for AC to DC conversion and single and multiple SMPS output applications. The board offers high efficiency, low standby power, adjustable SMPS output levels, and an easy-to-use software platform, which makes it well suited for a variety of consumer applications and other applications that need a reliable, low-noise and low-cost switching power supply.
