The STEVAL-ISA141V1 evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the performance capabilities of the STGL3200 device, an offline, low-cost, double-ended forwarder operating from a universal input voltage and capable of delivering two regulated outputs. It is suitable for applications including those requiring two outputs such as telecom, AC/DC adapters, and universal battery chargers.

The STEVAL-ISA141V1 evaluation board is equipped with a wide range of features including a high efficient rectified auto-restart function and soft start, programmable over-voltage and under-voltage protection limits, programmable loop transient behavior with an adaptive loop bandwidth control circuitry, programmable output voltage range, adjustable output current capability, programmable frequency, programmable no-load current, and adjustable on/off minimum duty cycle. In addition, the board has a great thermal design with a optimized copper layout to ensure excellent thermal performance.

The operating principle of the board is based on a flyback converter topology. The board is driven by an external wide range of input voltages and can generate a regulated output voltage in the range of 3.5V to 15V. The flyback primary controller, STGL3200, is optimized for low-side current sensing and runs in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM). The output voltage of the board, and the output current and power capability of the board, can be programmed using two external resistors accessible from the board. A third resistor enables the secondary output voltage to be programmed externally.

The low-side current sensing technique of the board enables the control loop to be relatively stable at all duty cycles. This makes the board suitable for applications requiring low voltage output with a wide input voltage supply and extended input voltage range. The loop bandwidth can also be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of load transients that occur during operation. Furthermore, the efficiency of the board is maintained by utilizing an adaptive loop bandwidth control circuit.
