The STEVAL-ISA144V1 Evaluation Boards are designed by ST Microelectronics for DC/DC and AC/DC Off-Line SMPS applications. This evaluation board featuring ST’s VIPer Plus technology consists of an advanced high-performance 300 W Off-Line SMPS module, as well as the required passive components and DC-links for the implementation of a system. It provides a more efficient power supply system for such applications as networking hardware, telecom systems, industrial control and more.
The STEVAL-ISA144V1 evaluation board provides an ideal solution for the design of an isolated SMPS, based on VIPer Plus technology, which is typically used to power telecom systems, Networking hardware, HVAC systems, industrial control systems, storage systems, motor drives and more. It is especially suitable for applications that require high-efficiency and need a regulated output voltage across a wide input voltage operating range. It also offers a wide range of features such as energy savings, multi-channel designs, a wide range of power delivery options, and compatibility with a variety of input and output voltages.
The STEVAL-ISA144V1 board features a VIPer Plus PFC controller and a VIPer Plus 1-Quad Auxiliary (VQA) field-effect transistor (FET) driver. It also contains an auxiliary power FET driver, a 400V MOSFET, Anti-Parallel Diodes, a capacitor and inductor, a switching transformer, and a power converter capacitor. The board also includes a variety of support components as well as external connectors to allow for easy connection to other boards.
The STEVAL-ISA144V1 evaluation board simplifies design integration into any application by providing a working example of an advanced SMPS design. This board helps to eliminate the design complexity associated with traditional implementations of AC-DC converter and PFC circuit topologies, thus saving a substantial amount of design time and cost. In addition, it allows users to test and verify their designs before system implementation.
The basic working principle of the STEVAL-ISA144V1 evaluation board is as follows. The rectified AC voltage input is fed to the bridge rectifier which converts it to a DC voltage input. This DC input voltage is then fed to the voltage sense block which uses a divider circuit to convert the measured voltage to an appropriate voltage in the PFC controller’s range. The PFC controller then uses this voltage to regulate a desired power factor (PF) and regulates the output voltage according to the programmed input. The VQA driver then activates the auxiliary power FET, which helps reduce the switch voltage deviation for high line condition. Power is provided to the switching transformer from the MOSFET, which is controlled by the VQA driver. The oscillator of the VIPer Plus device is operated at a frequency to ensure optimized power conversion and minimized electromagnetic interference.
