STEVAL-ISB008V1 evaluation and demonstration boards and kits are designed to evaluate and demonstrate the Feasibility of using low-noise, high-efficiency, high-power-density DC/DC converters in LED lighting applications. This kit features a densely integrated, cost-effective power solution that supports multiple adjustable current and output combinations, and it is an ideal tool for evaluating designs and providing an easy-to-implement development solution for LED lighting products.

The STEVAL-ISB008V1 evaluation and demonstration board and kit contains an efficient LED driver chip, a high-impedance current sensing resistor, an adjustable LED current sink, an output capacitor, as well as the relevant power supply circuitry and connectors. It is designed to supply power to LED arrays connected in series. It has an adjustable output current that can be programmed between 0.1A and 1.0A, and an adjustable output voltage that can be programmed between 9 and 36V. An output voltage of 12V and a current of 0.5A is the default configuration. The output current can be regulated by adjusting a potentiometer. The LED current is sensed with a current shunt resistor, reducing the output voltage accordingly.

The STEVAL-ISB008V1 supports external dimming of the LED load. The detection threshold of the dimming is adjustable and there are two types of dimming signal available: 0-10V and PWM. The PWM frequency is adjustable between 1KHz-25KHz, and the PWM duty cycle can be adjusted between 0 -100%. The dimming signal can be generated with a voltage input, or by shorting pins 2 and 4 of the dimming terminal. The STEVAL-ISB008V1 consists of an LED driver controller circuit which is based on a current-mode step-down converter. It combines switch control logic, current-mode control, and dimming control, all of which are embedded within one chip.

The current-mode control provides high immunity to noise and enables easy implementation of fast-dynamic LED current reduction. In addition, its high ripple-current suppressions capabilities provide a more efficient system with fewer external components, hence delivering high power efficiency for the LED driver.The STEVAL-ISB008V1 operates in quasi-resonant mode, thereby reducing the switching frequency of the power stage when the load current is low. This provides improved efficiency, lower switching losses, improved EMI performance and reduced system noise.
