STEVAL-ISB045V1 is an AC/DC LED driver with average current mode control. The device supports non-isolated buck topology with configurable output current up to a maximum of 350mA, designed to address various LED lighting applications, such as dimmable LED lighting and general purpose LED lighting. The device includes an I2C interface, allowing for the programmability of features such as LED current and dimming.

Application Field

LED lighting applications require constant output current for reliable operation and long product lifetime. The AC/DC LED driver suitable for direct input voltage ranges from 90VAC to 277 VAC, making them suitable for multiple application areas such as home lighting, public lighting, commercial lighting, architectural lighting, hospitality, etc. The device reduces stand-by power consumption and features optimized operating frequency.

Working Principle

The AC/DC LED driver comprises two linear regulators, one dedicated to VCC and one to VDIM. The buck LED driver includes an active average current control loop operating in average current mode providing accurate LED current regulation and stable LED brightness over a wide AC input.

The I2C interface allows to configure the parameters of the LED driver, such as the LED current level and dimming level. The default LED current level is set to 350mA, and the dimming level programmable through the I2C interface allows two dimming methods, analog dimming and PWM dimming. The internal dimming control is selectable and features fast and efficient luminance control of LED lighting.

The device integrates special features, providing high efficiency, low cost and minimized form factor. The basic goal of the design is to keep the components count in system low, allowing for efficient power conversion, lower conduction and switching losses.

The device comes in a small D-PAK package, allowing for optimized performances at reduced operating frequency improving the efficiency. It also offers an integrated input circuit, as well as two integrated output N-Channel MOSFETs. It also implements over voltage protection and thermal protection.

The STEVAL-ISB045V1 enhances safety through built-in thermal shutdown as well as LED over temperature shutdown. The over temperature threshold is adjustable and offers excellent protection against LED overheating.

The wide, wide industry standard allowed range of up to 350mA LED current enables the design of various LED lighting applications, such as general purpose LED lighting, dimmable LED lighting, etc. The I2C interface allows for dimming, fast transient response and high accuracy current setpoint regulation.
