Linear voltage regulators (LVRs) are an important part of today’s power delivery systems. STEVAL-LDO001V1 was developed to meet the needs of power applications which require precise control and regulation of the output voltage. It is one of STMicroelectronics’ evaluation board range designed to provide engineers and hobbyists with a well designed and proven platform to quickly evaluate the features and performance of their voltage regulators. The STEVAL-LDO001V1 evaluation board allows easy connection of various external components to allow for rapid and accurate evaluation of the device.
The STEVAL-LDO001V1 evaluation board is equipped with the latest in linear voltage regulator technology. It is based on the ST LD1117V33, a 3.3V low drop-out linear voltage regulator. The device features a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 20V, and delivers an adjustable output voltage up to 12V. It has an impressive power of up to 1.5A, and very low dropout voltage of 0.3V at full load current. The ultra-low quiescent current ensures very low power consumption when the output is not required. The board features over-temperature, over-current and reverse voltage protection to ensure safe operation.
The working principle of the STEVAL-LDO001V1 evaluation board is based on the regulation of the output voltage, which is achieved by controlling the current passing through the regulating pass transistor. The current through the pass transistor is in turn controlled by a feedback loop that monitors the output voltage. A comparison is made between the measured output voltage and a reference voltage, and the difference determines the current through the pass transistor. This current is adjusted until the output voltage equals the reference voltage, at which point the output voltage is regulated at the desired level.
The STEVAL-LDO001V1 evaluation board is capable of handling both low and high power requirements in a wide variety of applications.
