The STEVAL-MKI126V2 is a versatile evaluation and demonstration board for advanced current-mode PFC applications, provided as a part of the STM3210E-EVAL evaluation platform. This system offers high power, high efficiency and fast current mode PFC (Power Factor Correction) to satisfy the most demanding requirements in power converters. It is a complete turnkey solution, consisting of a power board, two interface boards, a host board, and all necessary interconnecting cables.
The system can be used to evaluate power factor correction performance, current-mode control, power factor optimization, and other high-efficiency technologies. The board includes a high power evaluation circuit, capable of instantaneous currents up to 8 A and voltages up to 400V. It has two analogue inputs and outputs, two digital inputs and outputs, LED indicators, and a GUI software. The GUI provides real-time evaluation and monitoring of parameters such as input voltage, output voltage and current, and output power. The board also features features such as over temperature and overload protection, pulse-by-pulse current limitation, and DC bus voltage compensation.
The board’s structure includes a main component on the power board and two sub-components on the interface boards. The main power components on the power board include an IGBT bridge, current and voltage sensors (hinge sensing circuit), opto-coupler, and a control IC. The interface boards hold power compensation loop capacitors (Cc and Cf) to filter the ripple of the input voltage, and two DC-DC converters a Hall-effect current sensor to detect the load current. The control IC features current-mode control and its associated functions.
The control loop is enabled by the proprietary adaptive current-mode control (P-ACMC). The control algorithm continually adjusts the operating parameters of the power converter according to the load conditions, with the goal of providing the most efficient operation and highest power factor possible. The control parameters can be optimized using the topologies provided by the user, including a buck regulator, forward converter, and flyback converter.
The P-ACMC adaptively adjusts the duty cycle of the IGBT bridge to keep the load current in phase and within range. This maintains a constant output voltage, which is monitored by the current sensor. The result is a high-power, high-efficiency, and low-noise system that can be used for a variety of applications. The board can also be used to evaluate high power LED lighting systems, brushless DC motor drives, and automotive applications.
The STEVAL-MKI126V2 is an ideal solution for evaluating high-efficiency, high-power applications. The evaluation kit includes the necessary components, boards, and cables for evaluating current-mode controllers, optimized power factor controllers, and other high-efficiency technologies.
