In the STPS8L30B-TR, it is a Schottky diode which has a very low forward voltage drop, typically around 0.20to0.35V.This allows the device to operate with very low losses. It also has a high peak reverse voltage of 600V and is rated for a continuous reverse voltage of 80V.The device also has a built-in guard ring (GR) which helps to protect it from avalanche breakdown and ESD. The guard ring reduces the current gain in the series avalanche breakdown improving the device’s avalanche capabilities. In certain applications, the guard ring can also act as an ESD shield.
