Saw based clock generator is an important component used in communication systems and other applications of modern electronics to attain frequency accuracy and precise clock signals. The STW81200TR Clock Generator is a wideband, high performance, differential Saw based clock generator specially designed to meet the requirements of mobile devices in terms of low power consumption and wide frequency range.The devices can provide precise frequency output (or clock signals) in the kHz to GHz range with an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8-3.3V, which is controlled by external voltage rail.

The STW81200TR Clock Generator works on the principles of Saw based inverter chain, PLL and high-speed on-die VCO. The Saw inverter chain is the main sub-circuit in the clock generator which performs synchronized switching of the clock signal according to the saw signal provided. It consists of P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs switching in an opposite manner and forms a switch based inversion chain.The PLL sub-circuit forms the core of the clock generator and completes the signal processing by providing the signals to ensure synchronization, harmonic compensation and generation of precise frequency output. The PLL comprises the internal voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) which generates signals that are in synchronization with the input signal (or reference signal) and is used to obtain the desired frequency of clock output.

In addition, the on- die VCO contains a voltage control tap through which the switching of the reference signal frequency is adjusted. The tap is controlled by external voltage rail for setting the desired frequency. The harmonics of the output clock signal can be accurately compensated by controlling the VCO gain. The output frequency of the clock generator can be set from kHz to GHz range using this such that it can be used for wide range of applications.

The STW81200TR Clock Generators are especially designed for use in mobile, modular and wearable devices and have several features such as low power consumption and wide frequency range that make it suitable for such applications. The clock generator is highly reliable and allows precise frequency output with very low jitter and noise. It can generate accurate clock signals with excellent phase noise characteristics, thus making way for superior performance.
