TVS (Thyristor Voltage Suppressors) are widely used in a variety of industries and applications. The T10C110BF is a type of TVS that is employed in applications ranging from residential to industrial, due to its excellent performance characteristics and cost savings, allowing it to fit any budget.
When electrical components in a circuit are exposed to a surge in voltage, they are vulnerable to being damaged, particularly if they are not adequately protected. The T10C110BF protects against high voltage surges, spikes, and electric fields by providing a fast clamping time to ground potential and generating a corresponding strong electric discharge current that allows the device to act as a short circuit. This fast clamping time reduces the spike energy and dissipates the same to the ground.
The device itself is a 1000V, 10A, low-capacitance unidirectional transil which is a type of semiconductor designed to protect components and circuits from overvoltage transients. It can be placed directly in line with the device it is protecting or connected to the ground in order to absorb the excess voltage.
The T10C110BF is capable of reducing the input surge voltage to a lower safe level before it is allowed to pass to the vulnerable components by using a low capacitance compromise between the capacitance of the TVS and the coupling of the interference pulse. When the device encounters a voltage spike above the firing voltage, it triggers a clamping response, thus ensuring the protected components are kept safe from accidental damage.
The device is also capable of providing enhanced protection against transients generated by loads switching with inductive kickback. This is accomplished by providing additional protection against ESD (electrostatic discharge) pulses. This does not require an external source and can help ensure that components remain safe even when exposed to high levels of inductive kickback.
