T10C340BF is a series of three-terminal low power silicon thyristors, which are mainly used for protection against transient voltage surges. They are initialized by the gate signal, and are voltage triggered thyristors that use gate control to trigger conduction. The three-pin T10C340BF series thyristor is composed of two circuit elements, the thyristor SCRS and the fast recovery diode FRD. Both are connected in inverse parallel and housed into one package, using a single part number.
Application field
The application of the three-action T10C340BF series thyristor includes switching, voltage registration, current limitation, decoupling, as well as the protection of electrical equipment and circuits from damage due to overvoltage transients. With the near-zero voltage that generates gate control, it is used in a wide range of industries such as industrial, telecommunications, automotive, and consumer electronic sectors.
The T10C340BF series contains 600W, 1200W and 2400W parts with a fast response time. It features a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C a symmetrical pair, an ultra-soft capability, and a low noise Trr. It also features a low on-state voltage and a wide range of capacitive loads current.
Working Principle
When a T10C340BF is connected to the circuit, there are two components that are linked, the SCRS and the FRD. The SCRS acts as the center point, responsible for switching and conducting, and the FRD as the outer point, responsible for the rectification. On one side, a high current passes from the anode to the cathode when a positive voltage is applied. On the other side, the reverse current is blocked due to the effect of the reverse PN junction of the FRD.
When the load voltage is too high, the signal current causes the SCRS to irradiate, resulting in an avalanche breakdown. The current that flow through the SCRS increases exponentially at this point, and when the current reaches a certain value, the SCRS bursts off, providing protection against overvoltage transients. Due to this current limitation through the SCRS, the voltage across the load is regulated.
The T10C340BF series also offers fast response time and is considered ideal for applications that require low leakage and energy loss. It does not require many additional components, making it cost-efficient and reduces the overall system’s board space requirement. By using the thyristor-based T10C340BF series, the transient voltage surge can be efficiently limited and reliable system protection can be expected.
