The T810-600G-TR is a Triode AC Switch (TRIAC) belonging to the family of thyristors. A TRIAC is basically a pair of silicon controlled switches connected back to back and activated by a single gate input. It is used in circuits that require AC control and can be used to control phase angle and power across an AC load. As such, the T810-600G-TR is particularly ideal for the control of filament and heater loads, illumination lighting, motors, and heating elements, among others.

The maximum ratings of the T810-600G-TR is 600V, 800A, 1.2kW. It is a bidirectional device, meaning that it can be used for both positive and negative gate triggering respectively for on-off control and zero-cross switching. Its blocking capability (reverse current break-over) can be up to 800A. Thus, the T810-600G-TR is particularly suited to applications where high voltage and high current control is required.

In terms of working principle, a TRIAC relies on the principle of three terminal switching device which can control both half cycles of AC current. It must be triggered by an input voltage which is larger than the cut-in voltage. Once the voltage meets the cut-in voltage (VGT), the TRIAC’s gate current first activates and then continues to rise, leading to the turning on of both thyristor arms. If the gate current has sufficient current, the TRIAC fully turns on and the device controls the load current across the load impedance.

The T810-600G-TR can switch from on-off and zero-crossing, thanks to its bidirectional current flow capability. When used as an on-off switching element, the gate current can be reversed to trigger both thyristor arms. Similarly, the TRIAC can switch from off-on or zero-crossing trigger for controlling AC power. This feature is useful for controlling appliances and other equipment such as compressors and electric locomotives. The T810-600G-TR also has a very low turn-off current and a high hold-off voltage.

In addition, the T810-600G-TR has thermal and surge protection features which make it perfectly suited to industrial applications.
