Working Principle

Tantalum capacitors such as the TAP156K035CRW are constructed using a tantalum anode, an oxide film dielectric, and a solid electrolyte. During the capacitor manufacturing process, an anode pellet composed of finely ground and mixed tantalum powder is pressed into a button shape which is then sintered in a special furnace. This pellet is then placed in a furnace to form a solid dielectric film of tantalum pentoxide and stands apart from other capacitors since a tantalum capacitor’s dielectric is harder to break-down as compared to conventional capacitors. The capacitor is then soldered onto the circuit board and can then be used to help regulate power supply.
