Working Principle

Finally, the capacitor is covered with a layer of protective material to avoid oxidation, and provide electrical insulation.

In operation, the two electrodes store electrical energy, and the capacitor can be discharged to deliver the stored energy. This is done by applying a potential difference in the two electrodes, creating an electric field in the dielectric. The electric field creates a flow of electrons across the dielectric, allowing the capacitor to release its electrical charge.
