Tantalum Capacitors
Tantalum capacitors are a type of electrolytic capacitor which utilizes tantalum as the anode material. They are available in a wide range of capacitance values and can be used in a variety of applications, including high-frequency circuits, high-temperature and aerospace applications. The unique anode material used in these capacitors provides superior long-term stability and excellent standing performance.Tantalum capacitors have a construction similar to that of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, but instead of aluminum, they use tantalum as the anode material. The tantalum anode is surrounded by an electrolyte, which serves as the dielectric between the anode and the positive terminal of the capacitor. The electrolyte also works to reduce the leakage current. The anode is encased in an insulating material, such as a plastic or rubber material, to protect the capacitor from external electrical shocks and prevent short circuits. This insulating material is usually covered by an outer metal casing for additional protection.TAP335M016HSB is a 0.1µF/25V, Non-polarized, Surface-mount, Polymer tantalum capacitor. It has a maximum temperature of 85C and is RoHS compliant. This product is widely used in a variety of applications, including consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and medical devices.The TAP335M016HSB has a high volumetric efficiency and a low equivalent series resistance (ESR) which is perfect for high-frequency applications. Its non-polarity also makes it ideal for use in circuits where the polarity of the capacitor is not important. These characteristics make it ideal for use in power supplies and energy management circuits.The working principle of tantalum capacitors is based on the breakdown of the tantalum anode in the presence of an electric field. The anode is coated with an electrolyte, which is a conducting medium. This breakdown of the anode creates a depletion layer in between the anode and the electrolyte. When a voltage is applied to the terminals, the electric field produced between the two layers causes a displacement of charge carriers, which creates a capacitance. As the applied voltage increases, the number of charge carriers decreases, resulting in a decrease in the capacitance value. This decrease in capacitance is often referred to as "dielectric absorption". But once the voltage is reduced, the capacitance recovers due to the re-accumulation of charge carriers.Tantalum capacitors are ideal for high-frequency applications due to their low ESR and high volumetric efficiency. They are also very stable over time because their capacitance does not change significantly with time or temperature.
