The TC4420CPA is a type of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) highly efficient MOSFET driver designed to quickly and autonomously switch on and off in order to drive the gate of an N-channel MOSFET or IGBT in high-side applications (power switch circuits) for different applications and fields. A PMIC is an integrated circuit that is used to manage the flow of power to many different components, with the goal of automating the power management tasks of a system.

A frequency control circuit offers the user a choice of a fixed frequency either by external resistor, or a variable frequency using the PWM pin.
The TC4420CPA also offers protection circuitry such as under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and thermal shut-down (TSD). The UVLO monitoring circuit shuts down the output in case the supply voltage drops below a certain threshold. Furthermore, TSD circuitry operates a thermal shutdown when the junction temperature rises above a preset limit.
