TC7660SEOA is a DC-DC stepping-down converter developed by Texas Instruments. It is usually used as a switching-mode power supply, also known as an SMPS, and is designed to take one DC voltage and convert it to another DC voltage with efficiency greater than that of a traditional linear regulator. This device is a high-performance, cost-effective buck converter with integrated control and protection features and best-in-class, 0.4% accuracy line regulation for applications under variable input sources.The TC7660SEOA allows for the buck converter to operate from a wide range of input supply voltages and any output voltage from 0.8V to 8V with an external resistor. For example, it can operate with an input voltage of 4.5-20V and an output voltage of 1.8V. It provides continuous short circuit protection, over-temperature protection, over-current protection, and current foldback protection. The current limiting function protects the load device connected to the output of the TC7660SEOA device.The TC7660SEOA is a step-down buck converter that is designed to operate in both continuous and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), and it has an adjustable switching frequency of up to 1MHz. This allows the user to choose the most power-efficient frequency range depending on their application. In addition, the device offers integrated frequency dithering function that helps spread the EMI noise on the output.The TC7660SEOA can be used for a range of applications including DC-DC converter for powering microcontrollers, FPGA, DSPs and other digital signal processors, or it can be used in battery-powered devices such as portable medical devices, handheld communication systems, and automotive applications.The TC7660SEOA operates with a PWM area voltage-mode control scheme. The device has a fixed frequency of 1MHz and uses constant on-time control to regulate output current and maintain output voltage. Control loop operates with external resistors and a small switch capacitor network, resulting in a simple and fast loop compensation.The output voltage of the TC7660SEOA is regulated by an integrated voltage loop that compares the output voltage to a voltage reference. The comparator output drives an N-channel MOSFET low-side switch in the device, which then regulates and maintains the output voltage.Moreover, TC7660SEOA also implements a current-mode control loop to regulate the output current, which can be programmed with an external resistor across the ITH pin. This current-mode control loop is also designed to provide loop compensation and protection, while still providing excellent transient response to load current changes.The circuit also features an output ground pin, AGND, which is used to reduce the output voltage ripple and improve light-load efficiency. The device is available in a 2-step shrink DIP package (SOP-8) for ease of routing.In addition, the TC7660SEOA features a low power sleep mode that reduces the quiescent current when no load is connected to the output of the device. This sleep mode only requires a small resistor and capacitor to be connected to the EN pin to enable power saving.Overall, the TC7660SEOA is an integrated DC-DC buck converter solution which combines PWM voltage mode control with the current mode control, providing high efficiency and excellent output current regulation. It offers excellent load and line regulation performance, adjustable switching frequency up to 1MHz, programmable current limit, and over-temperature protection.
