The TCA4311DGKR is a 3.3-V, very low-power, CMOS logic-compatible core IC from Texas Instruments with a ±400-MHz-differential CML (Current Mode Logic) / LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) data input capable of driving four 1.8-V CML / LVDS outputs running at rates of 1-GHz. It is a fully-differential, high-speed signal repeater, which can serve as an ISO-bus interface, expand logic, cascade multiple-data buses, expand the fan-out of logic gates, or as a buffer. This application serves as an ideal solution for off-chip long trace length applications, particularly in high-speed, multi-drop bus structures.

Signal Buffers, Repeaters and Splitters are designed to improve signal integrity and extend trace lengths beyond what can be reasonably supported with off-the-shelf trace lengths. Signal buffers are used to extend the length of traces between components, most typically connectors and sockets. These buffers may also be used to extend the trace length of traces between multiple sections on the printed circuit board. Repeaters are used to isolate and amplify the signal between sections on a board and to help maintain signal integrity. Splitters are used to duplicate a signal or data bus to multiple devices.

The TCA4311DGKR is an ideal choice for applications requiring high performance, low power and minimal external component count for fan-out, multi-drop bus structures, such as optical fiber cables and long-distance transmission lines. Its CML/LVDS outputs are low-voltage differential signals, which reduce power consumption, save board space and simplify system designs. Its differential inputs also allow for the differential signaling of signals over longer distances with greater noise immunity. The TCA4311DGKR is also compatible with several logic families, such as CMOS, ECL, and TTL, and is useful in applications requiring full-duplex data transmission over high frequency signals.

The TCA4311DGKR can be used in a variety of systems across a wide range of industries and applications, including automotive, industrial, consumer, and industrial control systems. Examples of the applications and industries this part can be deployed in are communication systems and home automation systems, audio and video systems, video switching and broadcast systems, metrology systems, and consumer and industrial control systems.

The working principle of the TCA4311DGKR is simple. It supports both LVDS and CML inputs, and is capable of taking in one high-speed, low-voltage differential input signal and routing it to four separate 1.8-V CML/LVDS outputs running at 1 GHz. This allows the input signal to be divided or distributed, allowing a multi-drop bus system to be constructed in which signals can be sent to multiple devices. The TCA4311DGKR also has low power dissipation and can act as an isolation buffer in order to reduce noise, improve signal integrity and extend trace lengths.

The TCA4311DGKR provides a strong platform to build complex high-performance systems by splitting and distributing high-speed, low-voltage differential signals. With its low power and minimal external component count, this part is an ideal choice for applications requiring signal buffering and/or fan-out of logic gates. This device is a powerful solution for off-chip long trace lengths in a variety of systems and industries, including automotive, industrial, consumer, and industrial control systems.
