Linear voltage regulators are one of the widely used DC-DC changeover regulations. They are employed for both the micro and macro level application ranging from powering the small scale circuits to powering and maintaining the voltage references in large-scale circuits. TCR2LN12,LF is one of the linear voltage regulators with the input voltage capability of 4.3V to 20V and output current capability of 350mA. It is a single output type regulator that features a low dropout voltage and adjustable output voltage. This voltage regulator is designed and manufactured by Torex Semiconductor Ltd.
The applications for the TCR2LN12,LF voltage regulator are many. It is ideal for using in automotive, telecom, battery powered, medical and in various industrial appliances. In medical applications, it is used in medical capsules, X-Ray equipment and much more. In the automotive field, it is used in power steering, door locks, instrument clusters and windshield wiper motors. Working Principle of TCR2LN12,LF Linear Regulator:
The TCR2LN12,LF linear regulator operates on the basic principle of Zener diode voltage reference. A Zener diode is a special kind of diode which can maintain an almost constant voltage when the current is increased through it. This voltage regulation is based on the voltage drop across the base-emitter junction of a bipolar junction transistor. A voltage divider is set up between the Zener diode and another resistor. When the input voltage increases, it acts on the Zener diode and causes its voltage to increase. This increases the base to emitter voltage which decreases the transistor\'s collector to emitter voltage and thus results in regulation of the output. The other resistor determines the output voltage of the regulator. In this way, the voltage regulator can provide extremely accurate output without any adjustment to the output.
The TCR2LN12,LF linear regulator supports the Disable Output Pin. The output voltage of the regulator is disabled by taking the DISx pin to low voltage. It withstands transient voltage spikes up to 10V and is short-circuit protection. It also supports the current limiting and thermal shutdown functions. The temperature range of the regulator is from -40°C to 110°C.
In conclusion, the TCR2LN12,LF linear voltage regulator is well suitable for automotive, telecom, medical, battery powered and industrial applications. This regulator provides excellent accuracy with the voltage output becuase of the Zener diode voltagereference.
