TEA1738GT/N1,118 is a quad-phase PWM controller of Enpirion\'s power management integrated circuit (PMIC) products family, specifically designed to provide the high-performance and high-efficiency AC-DC conversion at fast loading conditions. It is capable of driving a four-phase interleaved buck topology to deliver up to 2.5A at 5V or 2A at 12V from a wide AC input range of 90-265Vac at 50/60Hz. This product is also suitable for other topologies, such as single-phase, dual-phase and three-phase solutions. Furthermore, the TEA1738GT/N1,118 functions as a high frequency, low power, offline switcher to serve as an economical solution for many commercial isolated offline switchers.

Application Field

TEA1738GT/N1,118 is often used in a variety of applications, such as computing and telecom equipment, industrial PC systems, Distributed Power Architecture (DPA) and non-isolated Point of Load (POL) applications. It can also be employed in TV power supplies,telecom/networking power supplies, single-phase high voltage AC/DC, dual-phase high voltage AC/DC, three-phase high voltage AC/DC, point of load power supplies, floor Wifi, VoIP, CPE, Refrigerator, air conditioner, hot water heater, washing machine, electrical oven, and several other MICROCOMP-ACDC products.

Working Principle

TEA1738GT/N1,118 operates in AC/DC conversion, keeping all the parameters of the load consistent and allowing it to operate in continuous operation. The device features very short dead-times, as well as adjustable switching frequency, so that it can be used to create a multi-phase interleaved system with a frequency higher than 100 kHz to achieve a very high efficiency conversion over the whole load range.The power of the load remains constant under different line and load conditions, and EMI is reduced by adjusting the pulsewidth.The product also comprises a variable frequency current mode PWM of internal and constant on-time control mode, so that it can be operated in two operating modes, either current-mode or constant on-time control.

When TEA1738GT/N1,118 is used to regulate a multi-phase interleaved buck topology, the device continuously divides the input AC voltage into different phases, each phase is controlled by one of the four phases. Each channel of the converter is regulated independently by the internal modulation logic. The converter further regulates the output voltage through high frequency multiplication and requires only minimum external components. There is no need for an external compensation or a loop filter due to the internal PWM unit.

On the other hand, when the product is used as an offline switcher, it supports several operation modes, such as the variable frequency current mode PWM (VFCM) and the constant on-time (COT) control. In VFCM mode, the inside of the device is pre-sets the internal modulation frequency according to the power level, while the maximum PWM duty is determined by the internal signal-sensing circuit. Moreover, by setting the internal signal-sensing signal, the device can handle all the power levels with a fixed on-time.
