Working Principle
The TEA1532AT/N1 IC uses a single-stage synchronous buck topology, where a powerful and well-suited N-MOSFET and P-MOSFET are connected in a synchronous buck converter. The PFC control loop is built on the idea of voltage-mode control, where it reads the voltage through the feedback loop and compensates for it. The core of the PFC control loop is an analog multiplier. The current sense amplifier senses the current drawn by the load, and provides a proper current loop feedback to the controller.
The output voltage is regulated by PWM/PI control, where the load variations are sensed in real-time. When the current drawn from the AC source increases, the voltage increases. The output voltage is sensed through the feedback loop, and then compared to the reference voltage. The difference between the measured voltage and the reference is the input for the error amplifier, which determines the PWM duty cycle.
When the AC input voltage is lower than the targeted input voltage, the PFC controller will use the boost converter to increase the input voltage, which results in higher output power and improved efficiency. This allows the converter to operate properly in both 115VAC and 230VAC applications.
The TEA1532AT/N1 also features a soft-start system to avoid inrush current, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout and thermal protection. The IC is designed for low EMI with advanced EMC protection and has a wide operating temperature range.
