TVS diodes play an important role in electrical systems wherever there is a need for protection of delicate circuitry against voltage transients. The TGL41-68-E3/96 series of TVS diodes are specifically designed for use in automotive applications and provide superior protection against voltage transients such as electrical fast transients (EFT) and electrostatic discharge (ESD).

The TGL41-68-E3/96 series of TVS diodes are constructed using a silicon epitaxial layer and feature a unique low capacitance and high power dissipation capability enabling them to provide superior protection over a wide range of voltages. It features a high voltage capability of 40V-400V, a maximum clamping voltage of 5V-55V across the entire voltage range, and a low on-state resistance of 0Ω-5Ω. The series also offers medium to high power dissipation and low to medium leakage current capabilities.

The TGL41-68-E3/96 TVS diode is primarily used to protect sensitive electronic components such as microcontroller-based systems, A/D and D/A converters, and other vital circuits from voltage transients caused by electrical fast transients (EFT) or electrostatic discharge (ESD). The device is designed to clamp an unusually high number of transients before the diode reaches its maximum dissipation limit and fails. The TGL41-68-E3/96 series is also designed to be highly reliable and maintain its electrical performance characteristics over a wide range of temperature and humidity.

The working principle of a TGL41-68-E3/96 TVS diode is simple: When a voltage transient or surge occurs, the diode will attempt to draw off the excess current, which causes an increase in the voltage across the diode. The increased voltage is known as a “clamp ” and is equal to the sum of the breakdown voltage of the diode and the forward voltage drop of the diode.
