Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are a type of electrochemical capacitor. They obtain their capacitance mainly from the oxide layer that is formed on a metal surface, mainly aluminum, as an anode. Compared to other types of capacitor components, electrolytic capacitors have much higher values of capacitance in a much smaller package. This is largely due to the double-layer construction of the electrolytic capacitors, as opposed to the single-layer construction of other capacitor technologies.
One of the best examples of aluminum electrolytic capacitors would be the THAS502M030AC1C. This particular aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a polarized capacitor with a capacitance of 0.03 microfarads (μF) and a voltage rating of 50 volts. It also has a long life expectancy of at least 2,000 hours. It is typically used in low current applications such as audio frequency filters, bypass circuits, and some power circuits.
The working principle behind the THAS502M030AC1C is relatively simple. It is a double-layer construction where one layer is made of aluminum and the other is made of an electrolytic solution.
