Data Acquisition - Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) is a field of engineering and technology, which deals with transferring continuously varying physical quantities like temperature, pressure, light, and sound into a form that can be processed by digital devices.The THS1041IPWG4 is an 8-bit/ 10-bit/ 12-bit, high-speed and low-power analog-to-digital converter (ADC). It has an on-chip track-and-hold (T/H) circuit, a reference, and an energy-conservation architecture that results in lower power operation than conventional ADCs.The main purpose of an ADC is to convert an analog signal into a digital format. THS1041IPWG4 provides conversion accuracy of 8-bits (13 effective bits) or 10-bits (14 effective bits) up to 400 MSPS.The THS1041IPWG4 ADC features low power consumption with 260 mW < 1 msps and as low as 5 mW at 400 MSPS and 5 mV input common-mode range. It also incorporates a programmable gain and offset registers for achieving maximum linearity over the entire input common-mode range. The device also features built-in characteristics that help reduce the bits required for digital averaging, allowing for quick adjustments to the signal being measured. The fast (80 ns) input signal tracking helps reduce signal settling time to the Nyquist frequency.From the signal input seen by the ADC to the digital output, there are a few stages. Input signal goes through pre-conditioning for noise and distortion control, followed by Any-Speed Sampling, which is then amplified and sampled at Nyquist frequency. Finally, the signal is digitized, processed, and output in digital format.The only external components needed in THS1041IPWG4 application circuit are a reference and a bypass capacitor, with no external amplifier or digitally post-corrective filter required. The device consists of integral input pins to ease the circuit board layout. In addition, it provides a common-mode and one differential output, eliminating the need for output anti-alias filters. Combining all these features, the THS1041IPWG4 reduces power consumption and offers high speed, accuracy, and precision for a wide range of applications such as communication, data acquisition and test and measurement systems.
