Texas Instruments’ TL081ID is a general-purpose monolithic low-power JFET input operational amplifier. The device comes in 8-pin metal can and 8-pin plastic dual-in-line packages. It is available in four different gains: 5, 10, 20 and 25. TL081ID is the low power version of TL081, and it has lower ouput current (max 90 mA).

Application field of TL081ID

TL081ID has both a low input bias current and low noise figure, making it suitable for use in portable and battery-powered applications. Working principle of TL081ID

TL081ID contains several transistors in its circuit and it is based on a classic voltage follower with current-limiting block. The differential amplifier consists of two MOS transistors and three resistors. The input transistor provides the amplification of the input voltage. The bias current block output is connected to the gate of the output transistor. The output voltage is taken from the drain of the output transistor. The current-limiting block consists of three transistors and resistors, where the two transistors form an amplifier which controls the drain current of the output transistor. The whole circuit is powered by a single polarity power supply.

TL081ID has a few outstanding characteristics such as low input bias current and low power consumption. Moreover, it has a high gain-bandwidth product, low noise, wide range of input voltage swings and a low offset voltage. It also provides high common-mode rejection ratio and output short-circuit protection.
