6. Function description

The TL331-Q1 contains a PNP Darlington pair input, allowing the device to operate with very high gain and fast response with minimal input bias current. Input Darlington pairs limit the input common-mode voltage capability, allowing the TL331-Q1 to operate accurately from ground to VCC – 1.5 V differential input. The output consists of an open-collector NPN (pull-down or low-side) transistor. When the negative input voltage is higher than the positive input voltage and offset voltage, the output NPN will sink current. VOL is resistive and will scale with output current.

7. Application Information

TL331-Q1 will typically be used to compare a single signal to a reference or two signals against each other. Many users take advantage of the open drain output to drive the comparison logic output to a logic voltage level to an MCU or logic device. The wide supply range and high voltage capability makes TL331-Q1 optimal for level shifting to a higher or lower voltage.
