TL431 is a three-terminal adjustable regulator which is developed as a counterpart of zener diode. It can maintain its output voltage against variations in load current, line voltage and temperature. TL431 has a wide range of application fields due to its features such as low cost, the high output voltage accuracy, and the low quiescent current. It is widely used in the fields of voltage references, voltage regulators and power supplies.
TL431BILP is a three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator featuring on-chip overvoltage protection and overcurrent protection, designed for both linear and switch-mode power supplies. It is based on the original TL431, but it has the improved possibilities, such as a higher current rating and a higher voltage rating, and it is available in the SOT-23-3L and TO-92 packages. TL431BILP can be used as an emergency shutdown, providing the circuit with over-voltage protection, over current protection, and over temperature protection.
Working Principle
The TL431BILP voltage reference is based on an externally adjustable bandgap reference and a bipolar transconductor. The entire output will be maintained at a precision input reference voltage adjusted by an external resistor network. Its output voltage can be adjusted linearly between 2.5 and 36 volts by connecting one or two external resistors. The bias current of the TL431BILP is set by the external resistor divider with reference voltage of 2.495 V. The maximum regulator control current is 5mA, so the maximum load current is limited to 5mA.
The TL431BILP integrated internal protection circuit includes protection from: Over-temperature shutdown, output short-circuit protection, and input overvoltage protection. The output of the short-circuit protection is connected to the SA terminal. When the output current exceeds 5mA, the SA terminal is pulled low to cause the internal current limit of the TL431BILP device to take effect.
Application Field
