The TL431IDR2G is a three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator and is classified as a PMIC (Power Management IC) Voltage Reference. It consists of an adjustable precision voltage reference and an error amplifier with a built-in precision current limiting circuit. It is convenient to use and easy to incorporate into circuits without any need for additional components. The TL431IDR2G can be used in a variety of applications as they offer a very stable output voltage and can be adjusted with minimal effort. It has a wide range of applications including in AC/DC converters and linear regulators. Additionally, it can be used for voltage monitoring, sequencing, temperature compensation and display diagnostics. The main working principle of the TL431IDR2G is based on a feedback loop. The device has two internal sensed voltages, one from the reference voltage divider, and the other from the feedback divider. The control loop works by comparing the two voltages to produce an output voltage. The output voltage is feedback to the two sensing points, thus completing the loop. The reference voltage is set by the associated reference divider network, which is connected to the OUT and ADJ pins. The reference voltage is set by choosing the value of the reference resistor connected between the OUT and FB pins. The output voltage is proportional to the reference voltage and the current in the ADJ pin is proportional to the output voltage. This current is sensed by the feedback divider, whose output is compared to the reference voltage. In order to manually adjust the output voltage, the voltage at the ADJ pin is manually varied. This can be done either by using a variable resistor, or by using a variable DC power supply. This can give very accurate adjustments to the output voltage.In addition to the voltage regulation, the TL431IDR2G also includes a current limiting feature. This feature is used to detect an overcurrent condition and to limit the current value to a certain level so that the circuit is protected from excessive current.
