The TLC2578IDWG4 system, classified in the data acquisition - analog to digital converter (ADC) field, is a high-performance, 8-bit data converter intended for wide-transmission applications. It features a power supply from 2.5 Volts to 5.5 Volts, providing a robust, low-voltage solution for battery-powered infrared (IR) systems. Its wide-range supply voltage makes it ideal for low-voltage applications in the Portable, Mobile and Wireless markets.

Its A/D converter architecture gives it the ability to perform multi-cartain conversions on its own devices. The TLC2578IDWG4 allows for a single-slope analog-to-digital conversion technique for maximum conversion accuracy. It is highly-accurate to within a few tens of parts-per-million (ppm), which is more accurate than many other converters on the market. The conversion range is adjustable with an external voltage reference that can be programmed from 0.2 V to 1V. A full-scale accuracy of 20 ppm helps to maintain high-speed, low-noise performance. The power savings of the converter is tremendous. Operating at low operating supply voltages, it is able to reduce power drawings by approximately 75% over traditional voltage-reference-based converters.

The TLC2578IDWG4 offers high-speed operation with a 3.4-MHz asynchronous sample rate and up to a 1.2-MHz conversion rate. It is programmed by the external ADC\'s processor and requires no external clock circuitry. The TLC2578IDWG4 boasts an advanced on-chip power/performance management that provides dynamic power savings as well as improved performance. In addition, in-system power-down and standby-mode controls help to reduce energy consumption and extend battery life.

The data-transmission system offers a superior dynamic range, with an extended conversion range up to 0-5 V. It also enables direct data acquisition from the analog input signal and transfers it onto the serial bus in high-speed, low-noise format.
