TLP2105(F) optoisolators feature high isolation voltage (2500 Vrms for TLP2105), low coupling capacitance (0.3 pF typ.), and high transfer ratio (CTR, at 5 mA IF, minimum 200% @ VCE=5V). The output stage provides a logic output stage that can sink a maximum of 50 mA. With an input current over 5 mA, the output turns off completely and isolates the two sides of the circuit. The TLP2105F shows a low power dissipation in spite of its high transfer ratio and high isolation voltage. The TLP2105F is particularly suitable for any type of high speed logic output circuit, providing an excellent protection to its load circuits.

The working principle of a TLF2105F optoisolator is based on optoelectronics: light (in this case an infrared light LED) is converted into electrons, with an amplifying stage (the phototransistor) and an output stage (the output transistor). When the LED is energized, the transistor in the phototransistor begins to amplify the signal. The current through the LED is then "blocked" (a reverse bias voltage is necessary to switch on the phototransistor) and the current becomes zero. The output transistor is then switched off and no current flows through it anymore.
