The TLP3083(TP1-F) is a part of the optoisolator family, specifically classified as an SCR or Triac output. Optoisolators are components used to electrically isolate two circuits, restricting communication between them to only one signal. Commonly available in several configurations, the TLP3083 (TP1-F) is a device that provides a galvanic isolation between two circuits by using light energy.

The TLP3083 (TP1-F) is a low cost, compact optocoupler that contains an LED source coupled with a photodetector. The LED source output is a light beam which can be passed through an dielectric material such as non-conductive glass or plastic. When this light beam strikes the photodetector, the output of the photodetector will be activated by the energy of the light emitted. This provides a complete electrical isolation between two circuits.

The TLP3083 (TP1-F) optoisolator has many uses, including power supply regulation, switching applications, and pulse width modulation (PWM).
