TLP5214(D4-TP,E Isolators

TLP5214(D4-Tb,E) isolators form the series of gate drivers manufactured by Toshiba. These gate drivers respond to the digital logic level input signals of the serial-IN devices to obtain the isolation effect and drive the external main power transistors.

The TLP5214(D4-Tb,E) isolator is a single-channel digital isolator. The output driver is designed to drive an external power transistor, and the overshoot voltage is limited by the internal ESD protection circuit. The input logic interface is compatible with the serial-IN devices. This isolator utilizes optical coupling technology to break the electrical isolation between the input-level-side and the output-level-side, and the isolation voltage of this product is 4 kV in the reinforced insulation type.

The gates drivers enables the power transistors connected in the load side to operate in a manner dependant upon the signals provided by the controllers and bits of a serial-IN format. Input-level-side logic signals can be transmitted to the output-level-side logic signal without connection of electrical wires due to use of an optical coupling element.

These products work by utilizing the photovoltaic effect of the optical coupling element. When the input-level-side logic signal applied to the optical coupling element turns on, the current across the element turns on. This current is converted to a voltage in the secondary winding of the transformer on the output side of the isolator, whereby terminal TOUT is placed at a high level. On the other hand, when the input-level-side logic signal turns off, the current across the element turns off, whereby the TOUT terminal is placed at low level. The operating frequency of this product is up to 1 MHz.

Nowadays, usage of TLP5214(D4-Tb,E) isolators is increasing in various electronic gadgets such as power supplies,AC drives,PCBs,and inverters in market.In many devices that require DC-to-DC conversion,the transistor switch is generally driven between the load side and the DC-to-DC converter side of the circuit.Switching of the respective transistors in response to the logic signal input is realizedwith TLP5214(D4-Tb,E) isolator. This isolator also acts as ACS frequency converters,which features a self-oscillation circuit with a freely selectable oscillation frequencyusing a fixed-value resistor and capacitor which can be incorporated into the circuit.
